After all the exhilarating action of the 2018 World Cup, England have made it all the way to the semi-finals! What better way to cheer on the national team as they aim to reach the grand final than creating a football clapper which are being regularly used by fans in the Russian stadiums!
Step 1: Grab Your Chosen Material
To create an effective football clapper, you’ll need to decide what material you want to use. Most football clappers will use thin card or thick paper, but they can also be easily made from manilla file folders also. Once you’ve got your material, it’s time to think about what design you want to feature on it!
Step 2: Design Your Football Clapper
There are two ways that you could create a design on your clapper. If you want to go for a homemade style effect, you could use screen-printing to print any chosen design onto your clapper. Alternatively, if you’re feeling a little more creative, you could use felt tip pens or markers to sketch out your design. When you’re happy with the design on your clapper, it’s now time to start folding!
Step 3: Create the First Folds
Place the folder or piece of card onto a smooth surface like a table. Next, fold one side of the folder completely over so that the clapper has two folded sides. Then, turn it over and fold over the other side. Once you’ve done this, you should see that it has created something similar to a fold out leaflet containing four separate sides.
Step 4: Continuing Folding Into Quarters
Once you’ve achieved the four folds, it’s time to fold the clapper into more sections. Start by folding one of the furthest folds on the left side in half, then repeat this with the further right hand side fold. Flip the clapper over and repeat the same process on the other side.
Step 5: Create the Final Folds
If you’ve followed the process correctly so far, you should now have six folds and you should see a fan shape starting to develop. As with the previous step, continue to fold the left hand side of the clapper in two and follow the same pattern on the right hand side. After each fold, make sure to keep flipping the clacker over – the result should have all of the folds now folding inwards into several layers when you push one side together with the other. Pull the sides out carefully and you should see your chosen design in the middle!
Step 6: Make Some Noise!
The clapper makes for a great looking image banner, but it makes an even better instrument! Clap along with the sounds of the cheering fans or create your own beat by holding the clapper together and striking it against your hand or onto any hard surface. If you’ve followed all these instructions carefully, you should hear a satisfying thwack as the paper folds all hit together simultaneously!
